About Me

Dance is the Universal Language

I have been dancing ever since I can remember. I have fond memories of my mum taking me to my very first dance class In Russia when I was 6 years old and begging the dance teacher to accept me (the minimum age was 10). I was accepted. And there began a lifelong love affair with dance. Once I got a bit older I started to travel. Whenever I’d get the chance I would try to watch a performance or learn the local dance style. A couple of years ago I watched a ballet at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. I was so moved by the performance, the beautiful music and the intricate footwork, I had tears streaming down my face. Time and time again, dance has the incredible power to take my breathe away. And I live for these moments.

Dance is the Universal Language. Dance has no barriers. Dance doesn’t care where you come from or what language you speak. When you watch dance or when you dance with someone, you feel something, you connect to something bigger than yourself.

To understand the culture, study the dance. To understand the dance, study the people. – Chuck Davis

Dance presents an incredible opportunity to understand a culture. Dancers are cultural and artistic messengers of our world, drawing poetry with their feet.  When a person dances they reveal their true selves to the world. It can take a lifetime for a master to learn their craft, and so dancers too, selflessly dedicate their lives to dance, to create beauty and bring joy to others.

Every art is the expression of the ‘here and now’ … Dance is movement, literature, archaeology, mysticism, music, painting, poetry and drama. It is a window to a larger life and culture.” – Chitra Swaminathan

In October 2016 I left Australia to fulfill a lifelong dream of travelling and dancing my way through Latin America. This journey has been truly incredible with so many things that I would like to share.  This is how Wanderlust Dancer was born. Part travel, part dance blog, here you can find information about different dance styles, where to learn, what to see and everything you need to know to plan your next dance adventure.
